I've been waking up pretty early recently and taking our new pup out for long walks when the world is still quiet. It gives me time to pause and think.

I'm 49 this year (the picture is a few years old now, there's more grey hair and other clear signs of the time that has passed) and have been thinking about what the rest of my years will look like. A big part of it will be taking care of the older generation in my family.

My parents are in Michigan. My wife's mother and her two aunts are in Connecticut. I dream of moving them all out here to California so that we can help take care of them.

Right now our lives are here in California. Our kids are in school. It's frustrating being so far away. When you play the caretaker role in your family, you want to do everything possible to help. I wish I could be three places at once.

While I work on moving our loved ones closer to us, I have been trying to learn all I can about senior care around Los Angeles and what the best options will be for those we take care of.

The business I have run for the last 25 years has been a research agency in PR/Communications.
